本文將會簡述弗列格式意涵（Fregean Sense），並探討弗列格式意涵是否有無限層級的結構，以及對此問題的採取正反不同立場可能會遭遇到的問題。在第壹章，筆者會簡介弗列格式意涵，並指出正反雙方的爭論點；在第貮章中會嘗試舖陳反方的說法；在第參章則嘗試回應於第貮章中提到的反對意見，並嘗試指出這種無限層級的結構並不會對弗列格式意涵理論構成嚴重的理論問題；第肆章中將會指出放棄某些弗列格式意涵的說法，或許能夠迴避弗列格式意涵無限層級的結構，但是這樣的處理方式這樣會引出另外的困難，並最後作為總結，主張弗列格的理論的確蘊涵了意涵的無限層級，而且作為一套弗列格式的意涵理論，應該接受意涵有無限層級的結構。

The aim of this thesis is to explore whether the Fregean Sense has an infinite hierarchical structure and assess various positions that might arise from adopting opposing stances on this issue. In Chapter One, Frege’s doctrine of sense and reference will be briefly explained and the point of contention between the opposing positions will be delineated. Chapter Two will lay out the details of some typical arguments provided by the opposing camps. In Chapter Three I will respond to the arguments against the infinite hierarchical structure of the Fregean Sense mentioned in previous chapters, endeavoring to demonstrate that this infinite hierarchical structure does not pose a serious theoretical problem for the Fregean Sense theory. In Chapter Four, I will point out that abandoning certain aspects of the doctrine of the Fregean Sense may avoid the issue of the infinite hierarchical structure, but this approach would introduce other difficulties. Finally, the conclusion will show that Frege's theory indeed implies an infinite hierarchical structure of Sense, and that a coherent Fregean Sense theory should accept such an infinite hierarchical structure.
