當台商對中國投資逐年增加之際，中國已體認到其過去的經濟成長是以極高的資源和環境破壞為代價，為使中國能從「世界工廠」轉型為「世界消費市場」，中國際出一連串之行動，欲使低附加價值、高污染與高耗能之產業無法在中國生存，這對當初因中國生產成本低廉而前往設廠之台商造成空前的經營壓力。
本研究以在台灣設立營運總部，中國為生產基地之高爾夫球頭業為研究對象，探討其面對經營成本不斷上漲之際所採行之豐田生產系統(TPS)，如何使其達到縮短生產途程時間與降低庫存之目標，以維持其產業競爭力。
文獻相當多探討企業推行豐田生產系統成功之個案，但對於企業推行豐田生產系統並不完善之個案研究，或是做不同產業個案比較之研究，卻幾無人碰觸，然其重要性，卻不亞於探討成功因素。
因研究者之前曾在adidas全球供應鏈LEAN (類似豐田生產系統) 標竿工廠(菲律賓)服務，亦曾在個案公司服務，試著將兩間不同產業公司在推行過程中，所觀察到影響成效背後的根本觀念之差異，做一探討與比較。
對於有意推行豐田生產系統之廠商，藉由個案未盡完善之處的探討與比較，使後進者在推行時能避免重蹈覆轍，以達事半功倍之效。
