本文以台灣牙科執業人員的證照體制變遷為研究對象，試圖分析台灣牙科執業人員專業畫界的過程。在1975年以後，牙醫師是唯一具有勞動力再生產證照機制的牙科執業人員。對於牙醫師在證照制度壟斷的權力配置如何形成與維持？是本文一開始的提問。但是，這個證照壟斷的權力配置在30多年以後發生了變化，在2009年《牙體技術師法》通過以後，又有一批新的牙科醫事人員出現。

《牙體技術師法》從制度上來看，是一種新的醫事人員證照制度。《牙體技術師法》的案例能夠提供本文對於牙科執業人員專業變遷的分析依據。從證照制度的角度切入，《牙體技術師法》可以讓原先的提問進一步推進，如果牙醫師維持多年權力配置的情況沒有式微，是在專業疆界如何劃定，以及體制如何變遷的情況下，會允許《牙體技術師法》出現，改變原先證照壟斷的情形？

本文以證照制度的變化作為敘述的分期，闡述牙醫師、鑲牙生、齒模製造技術員與牙體技術師等牙科執業人員之間在法律、教育、工作現場等場域中，如何爭取其自主性。最後則是敘述牙體技術師取得法律管轄權的過程，以瞭解這群醫事人員的出現，在牙科醫療專業變遷中，是一種專業化還是被支配的結果？
