With the global push for renewable energy and decarbonization, Taiwan is undergoing an energy transition. This has led to the rise of distributed energy and the Energy as a Service (EaaS) model, offering diversified electricity generation options for businesses. In this competitive landscape, new energy startups face the challenge of establishing a competitive edge and market value. This study focuses on Taiwanese EaaS startups and explores their positioning in the industry, utilization of dynamic capabilities to adapt to external changes, and key competitive advantages in the energy service sector.
Therefore, the focus of this study is on Taiwanese energy service startups. Through semi-structured interviews, in-depth discussions with EaaS companies will be conducted to address the following research questions: (1) What is the positioning of energy service companies in the industry as distributed energy gradually develops? (2) How should new energy service startups utilize dynamic capabilities to respond to external industry environmental changes? (3) What are the key competitive advantages for entering the energy service industry?
The contribution of this research lies in gaining a deeper understanding of the energy service industry and revealing the characteristics that companies should possess to enter this field more easily. By developing core capabilities and dynamic capabilities while continuously expanding their technical foundations and service offerings, energy service companies can maintain strong competitiveness in the market. Based on the research findings, the following conclusions are drawn:
    1. The data processing capability of energy service companies is not only their development core but also a competitive foundation.
    2. The ability of energy service companies to quickly discover and seize new market opportunities through perceptual capabilities is a key factor in strengthening their competitiveness and considering business model transformation.
    3. Energy service companies develop market-oriented technical capabilities through technology selection.
