本研究是以同光教會為實例，探討同志基督徒在性傾向與宗教信仰認同之間的衝突與整合，並進行新社會運動的過程。
首先歸納基督教對於同性戀價值觀的形成原因，並瞭解當代基督教會對於同性戀的研究與討論。再透過同志基督徒信仰經驗的敘事，分析影響個人認同的因素，由參與同光教會成立的同志基督徒回溯教會成立的過程，理解其展開集結的背景、方式和後續產生的影響。在教會組織成立後，探究其集體認同、抵抗論述與教會內部獨特文化的形成並運動的延續性等。
研究發現，個人的經驗與其所處的環境是影響認同的重要因素，個人的經驗與背景決定性傾向與信仰間衝突程度的強弱，個人所選擇的環境影響其解決衝突的方式，也因此認同的過程會隨著所選擇的環境與經歷的事物，具有不斷變動的特性。
同志基督徒以教會（信仰團體）做為其運動的組織，信仰的生活與種種儀式有助於強化、累積集體認同；汲取原本基督信仰中的材料，結合個人的信仰經驗，產生符合信仰內部的價值觀與論述以抵抗主流教會的反同價值觀；教會的運作模式，使得團體獲得穩定的人力與財力資源，對於運動持續帶來正面的助益；宗教信仰裡的超越性價值，更容易促成同志基督信仰團體之間的整合與結盟。
