此篇博士論文分為二大主題:第一主題我們主要探討L-band 摻鉺光纖,在第二章中介紹摻鉺光纖放大器的基本原理與其設計重點、增益及雜訊指數特性。而在第四章中研製並討論L-band 摻鉺光纖放大器的改善重點,評估摻鉺光纖放大器在光通信系統應用時的特性與品質,提出一個使用單顆泵激雷射的單行程放大架構,即可實現L-band 波段的摻鉺光纖放大器得到更高的增益以及同時擁有優良的雜訊指數表現。
第二主題我們則探討摻鉺光纖放大器在被動光網路以及其他應用,在第三章中我們分別對摻鉺光纖放大器應用在被動光網路系統的應用做一簡單介紹,另外在第五章亦提出分波多工被動光網路的系統架構,對於工作原理及提出如何在分波多工被動光網路架構下進行信號監控,以及如何利用摻鉺光纖放大器實現兩次放大與雷射鎖模功能,大幅降低傳統使用寬頻光源來實現注入鎖模光源的最小功率需求,進而來完成雙向傳輸的無色被動光網路架構,並探討系統的各種特性及通訊品質品質。
