Today, all industries in the world are in a highly divided world, and the economies of the world are closely connected with each other. The semiconductor industry has made a lot of contributions to the international economy. According to data from the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the output value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry alone reached NT$ 4,147.6 billion in 2022. As a result, many countries around the world have made the development of the semiconductor industry a key national strategy and have gradually emphasized international collaboration.
Currently, many published papers on the semiconductor industry primarily focus on the individual development of specific countries. However, further research is needed to delve into the collaboration between countries. Due to the rapid changes and advancements in semiconductor technology, the industry actively promotes the globalization of supply chains to enhance technological innovation. Patents encompass valuable technological information and collaborative efforts. Therefore, this paper adopts the patent network analysis method, uses the commercial patent research and analysis platform, and studies how international collaboration occurs by accumulating the number of inventor countries’ collaborative patents in the semiconductor industry from 2003 to 2022, and constructs a patent system in the semiconductor field. A collaboration network is provided to provide collaboration trends on the semiconductor industry. We hope to analyze and find more beneficial semiconductor partners for each country through the recent status of the semiconductor industry and the collaboration between countries around the world. The extension further explores whether there is knowledge sharing in the semiconductor industry.
