Abstract
Purpose: Functional movement screen (FMS) is a test of seven fundamental movements, including Deep squat, Hurdle step, In-line lunge, Shoulder mobility, Active straight leg raise, Trunk stability push up, and Rotary stability. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of 8-weeks Amphibious plyometric training (APT) on FMS and lower limb strength performance in male collegiate students. Methods: 40 male collegiate students volunteered and assigned equally into control groups or APT, which consisted of 40 minutes training, twice a week for 8 weeks. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to compare the difference between groups before and after training for each parameter, the statistic significance was set at P <.05. Results: The results showed that after 8 weeks, APT group can significant improve the scores of Deep squat, Active straight leg raise and Total in FMS (F =16.20, F = 6.08, F = 12.13, p < .05). Moreover, APT group can significant increase 60°/s E/F, 120 °/s E/F, 240 °/s E/F (P <.05) in lower limb strength. There improvement might because of the lower-extremity strength profiles were enhanced after regular APT. Conclusion: It is concluded that 8-weeks APT can improve the FMS and lower limb strength performance in male collegiate students.
Key words: Plyometric training, Functional movement screen, Lower limb strength
