自1968年,美國無線電公司(RCA)發明了液晶顯示元件,隨後液晶顯示器(LCD)開始蓬勃發展。然而從第一台LCD顯示器原型誕生到今天為止,其間經歷超過半個世紀的技術開發,才有今天的畫質水準與市場規模。繼日本、韓國,台灣之後,中國也積極投入 TFT-LCD 的生產並且開始建立相關的關鍵零組件與化學品供應鏈,預計2019年全球TFT-LCD市場規模將達到1100美金左右的水準。但是,隨著TFT-LCD產業日趨成熟,激烈的價格競爭與淘汰也愈趨激烈。
本研究以全球偏光板產業為例,藉由回顧競爭策略與競爭優勢的相關文獻,歸納資源基礎理論、能耐基礎理論與動態能力理論的若干屬性,整合一架構並歸納分析出: 領導者、參與者與生存者三個不同策略群組。不同的策略群組因其競爭優勢的不同,在經營績效與市場表現有所差異。不同群組之間的移動障礙與市場表現呈現高度正相關,移動障礙越大的策略群組,市場表現越好。相關偏光板業者,可以根據本研究了解本身所處的策略群組位置,並擬定如何進入移動障礙大的群組以提升經營績效。
Since 1968, the American Radio Corporation (RCA) invented the liquid crystal display device, then the liquid crystal display (LCD) began to flourish. From the birth of the first LCD display prototype to today, it took more than half a century of technolog development to achieve today's image quality and market size. Following Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, China has also been actively involved into TFT-LCD industry and established the key components and chemical supply chains of TFT-LCD as well. The global TFT-LCD market size is expected that will reach approximately USD 110 Billion in 2019. However, as the TFT-LCD market is getting more mature, the price competition and knockout is getting more ane more serious.
In this study, we would like to review the literature on competitive strategy and competitive advantages by the global polarizing panel industry as an example, to summarize several attributes of the resource-based theory, the competence-based theory and dynamic capability theory and integrate them into a framework. In this study, we summarize there are three different strategy groups: leading group, participating group, and survival group.
Different strategy groups will have different market performance due to their competitive advantages. The moving barriers between each groups are highly positively correlated with their market performance. The higher of the moving barrier can bring the better of the market performance. Polarizer maker can base on this study to understand which strategic they are. Then, polarizer maker can make a growth plan to enter other strategy group which have higher moving barrier to improve their business performance.
