During periods of uncertainty, individuals' values towards work shift, with greater emphasis on intrinsic meaning and social contribution. This study examines the career transition of individuals from commercial or professional workplaces to altruistic work and its impact on personal values and life meaning. The research aims to explore the motivations, psychological processes, and external influences that shape these transitions.

Grounded in Adler's social interest, this study employs qualitative methods, selecting five interviewees with over five years of business or professional experience who transitioned to altruistic work and maintained such roles for over two years. Data was gathered via semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically. Key findings include:

    1.Setbacks Inspire Career Transitions
Many participants faced career challenges or significant life setbacks, prompting them to reassess life goals and pursue altruistic work. These experiences fueled their motivation for excellence and showcased their resilience.

    2.Strategies Differ Across Career Stages
Participants used varying strategies to balance personal goals (self-focus) and social impact (community-focus) at different career stages. During the exploration stage, they sought balance under economic pressures without clear goals. In the establishment stage, they aligned personal growth with social impact, emphasizing sustainability. In the maintenance stage, with financial stability secured, their transitions were driven by self-realization and societal contribution.

    3.High Social Interest Drives Choices
All participants demonstrated strong social interest, such as optimism and interpersonal skills. These traits impacted their career choices, as they saw helping others as vital to personal value.

4.Growth and Shaping of Social Interest
Social interest is not limited to childhood but continues to grow through education, life experiences, and environmental influences.

5.Fulfillment and Challenges in Altruistic Work
Altruistic work brought participants fulfillment, self-worth, and meaning. However, economic pressures, organizational inefficiencies, and psychological challenges hindered engagement.
