Abstract
The purpose of this research aimed to investigate the relationships between gratitude, filial piety and well-being. The sample in this research consists of 1,364 senior high and vocational school students in Taiwan. The instruments used were "Inventory of Adolescents’ Gratitude", "Dual Filial Piety Scale" and "Chinese Happiness Inventory (short version)", after item analysis, a formal scale was formed. Conducted statistical analyses including descriptive statistics, independent-samples t test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, hierarchical regression and stepwise regression. The study results were as follows: All participants present (1) A level of overall gratitude above moderate, with female significantly higher than male; (2) A level of overall filial piety above moderate, with "reciprocal filial piety" significantly higher than "authoritarian filial piety", and female significantly higher on "reciprocal filial piety" than male; (3) A moderate level of well-being; (4) Generally, a significant positive correlation exists between the gratitude and filial piety. However, "a sense of abundance" is positively correlated only with overall filial piety and "reciprocal filial piety"; (5) Gratitude is significantly positively correlated with well-being; (6) The gratitude and filial piety has significant predictive effect on well-being. According to the findings, the following are suggested: The gratitude and "a sense of abundance" of Taiwanese adolescence population can be cultivated and promoted, and also the filial piety to the influence of the adolescent populations' mental health and the parent-child relationship can be more focused by the clinical practice.
