本論文探討三種不同碳鏈長的磷脂分子DSPC(18C)、DPPC(16C)、DLPC(12C)與以及膽固醇cholesterol在空氣與水的界面上形成二元或三元的分子單層膜(Monolayer)。首先由液面壓力隨液面壓縮變化的變化量測,其中只有DPPC混和系統有平台區,膽固醇混和比例低於40%時對於DPPC混和系統的結構有比較大的影響,從excess area可看出DPPC及DSPC在加入膽固醇在40%附近有最低值,對於DLPC則在60%膽固醇出現特別低的值。對DPPC及DSPC在較低壓力時,逐漸增加膽固醇會使原先不連續的疇域(亮的部分)逐漸轉成連續亮的疇域,中間則會經過連續疇域與不連續疇域共有的區域。對DLPC而言,加入膽固醇亦有類似的變化,但在很低壓及加入膽固醇在10%、20%及30%時都有明顯較亮的點狀疇域出現。在高壓時則這些混和系統都只呈現均勻的單層膜,當混和DSPC和DLPC,發現有相分離,DSPC會形成圓形區域比同周遭連續區域的DLPC高出約0.9 nm,符合兩者的鏈長差。最特別的是發現原本不互溶的DPPC和DLPC,再加入15%膽固醇時會變成互溶,在高壓力下形成均勻的單層膜。
