根據Zeitoun et al.(1999)與Sung & Sung(2008)，台灣南島語中，有些語言在「存在」、「領屬」、「處所」等三個結構都用同一個動詞表示，而針對泰雅語存現動詞的研究，多半提及的是賽考利克泰雅語的cyux/nyux (Zeitoun et al., 1999、M. Huang, 2008)以及汶水泰雅語的kiya/haniyan (Zeitoun et al., 1999、Z. Huang, 2013)。本研究則發現賽考利克泰雅語maki’一詞也常出現在「存在」、「領屬」、「處所」結構中。
本研究主要透過文本分析法交叉比對與分析maki’的相關語料，再輔以田野調查法確認文本語料真實性及正確性。研究發現，賽考利克泰雅語maki’一詞在使用上具有表示「存在」、「領屬」、「處所」概念等三大功能，在分布上更可歸納出六種句型，分別是[ maki’ + squ/sa/te NP1 + qu NP2 ]的處所句結構、[ maki’ + qu NP1 (+ squ/sa/te NP2 ) ]的存在句結構、[ maki’ + qu NP1 + na/nqu NP2]的領屬句結構、[ cyux/nyux maki’ + squ/sa/te NP1 + qu NP2]的強調用法、[ VP/NP + maki’ + (squ/sa/te) NP ]的介詞用法，以及[ maki’+數詞+NP…… ]的構式用法。進一步分析以上六種句型之間的關係，發現句型間透過不同的機制，以maki’的「處所結構」為來源，進而延伸出為其他五種句型。此外，本研究觀察到賽考利克泰雅語maki’與cyux/nyux在使用上相互依存的關係與限制，發現cyux/nyux + maki’的句型源自cyux/nyux + VP的句型，且兩者連用僅出現於「處所」概念的結構中，用以強化語境並說明主語存在的狀態。
