Proprioception is one of the essential senses in daily life and in sports, and ankle proprioception is an important part of it. Decreased proprioception in the ankle may decrease motor function in the relevant postures of the single foot or increase the risk of disastrous falls. In athletic sports, proprioception is related to the level of athletic performance. Besides training, taping is often used as a method to enhance proprioception, and the benefits vary depending on the type of taping, including limiting joint movement, enhancing proprioception, increasing sport performance, and reducing pain. Dynamic taping is a highly resilient elastic taping that has been used in recent years, which can adjust muscle load and change movement patterns, but its benefits on sport performance and proprioception are not yet clear. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of dynamic taping on sport performance and proprioception. Methods: Twenty healthy adult males were recruited to apply no taping, kinesio taping, and dynamic taping to the ankle joint, and to perform the joint position reproduction tests of 10∘, 20∘, and 30∘ of plantarflexion, squat jump and countermovement jump. The error angle of joint position reproduction was measured by Xsens Dot inertial measurement unit, and the ground reaction force during jumping was measured by Pasco force plate. Statistical tests were performed using repeated measures analysis of variance with a significance level of α = .05. Results: Dynamic taping was found to significantly increase jump height in the squat jump. Conclusion: Dynamic taping does not affect proprioception and can increase the performance of the squat jump, so it can be used as a choice of taping during sports.
