鄭吉雄先生於鄭吉雄（2008）、鄭吉雄（2009）、鄭吉雄、楊秀芳、朱歧祥、劉承慧（2009）等一系列論著中指出，詮釋主體終究難以蹬脫一己視界之限制，從而也無法對經典作出全然客觀的詮釋。而就梅廣（2004）看來，「詮釋」實後於「解說」（explanation）而來。經典既自成一封閉的「語言系統」（la langue），其與撰作的外緣背景便是割裂開來的，至多只能予以解說；必得透過適當的門徑將之還原為「言說」（la parole），始能加以解讀與詮釋。本文關注的便是先秦文本作為一個解說對象的環節。我們相信在這個環節上，先秦文本其實賦有一層相對客觀的文本意義，而一旦將文本還原到恰如其分的言說情境下，這層文本意義便可作為妥靠的詮釋基礎，為詮釋主體所援用。這其中文本意義之所以能「相對客觀」，關鍵就在於文本意義實為文本意義結構的投射，而文本意義結構又是語言系統中的規約化成分（conventionalized items）透過一定的規律所組合、衍生而成的。由於事態論元正是語言系統中的規約化成分之一，其對文本的意義結構乃至文本意義有塑成之效，那是自不待言；惜乎除卻梅廣（2001; 2004; 2015: 23-24, 110-111）等論著外，便少再有論者對事態論元形塑先秦文本意義結構的情況投予關注，是故本文即以此為務，於正文第三章分節探究事態論元對先秦文本意義結構的諸種形塑之效。
要言之，事態論元對先秦文本意義結構的塑成方式有三。在第一種方式中，事態論元或但憑自身、或經指示代詞之中介而領受了某句法述語所分派的論旨角色，從而得理解為該句法述語所定義之事態的個別參與者（第三章第二、三節）。在第二種方式中，個別事態論元接受不同句法述語、參與者論元、低層狀語的述謂以及不同體貌徵性的調節，從而指向具備不同語義內涵的諸種事態，以致有種種含蘊或不含蘊的表現（第三章第一節）、表述相同或相異事態類型的情況（第三章第四、六節）以及「互文足義」的訓解可行性（第三章第七節）。在第三種方式中，事態論元的定值被化約為事態在時空座標上的定位值，則此定位值的有無，也就決定了事態論元及其指稱事態的實存性，並進一步開啟了先秦「焉」系詞向反詰標記過渡的演化道途（第三章第五節）。

This study presents an investigation into the roles an eventuality argument can play in the semantics of Pre-Qin texts. According to our investigation, the contribution of eventuality arguments to the semantics of Pre-Qin texts comes in three ways. First, an eventuality argument can by itself or through the mediation of another pronominal assume the semantic roles assigned by the predicates with which it is associated. Second, an eventuality argument can be defined or coerced by diverse predicates, participant arguments, vP-modifiers, and aspectual features to denote eventualities that are just as diverse. Finally, the existence of an eventuality can be decomposed into the actual spatial-temporal location the eventuality takes up, and this accounts well for how Pre-Qin yan-words came to carry with them the illocutionary force of negation.
