This paper examines the factors that impact people's choices to begin, continue, or cease participating in winter sports like skiing and snowboarding. The study recognises the significance of physical activity in counteracting the adverse effects of a sedentary lifestyle and highlights the various advantages of sports involvement. Although winter sports are less prevalent worldwide than other sports, they provide distinctive opportunities and health benefits. The research's objective is to offer an understanding of the challenges, impediments, and hazards associated with skiing and snowboarding.
The literature review reveals that personal, environmental, and social factors significantly influence people's participation in winter sports. Key influencers include attitudes towards physical activity, past injuries, stress levels, and climate change. The study collected self-reported survey data from Southeast Asia and Taiwan participants, covering demographic information, budget considerations, and risk perceptions related to snow sports.
The data analysis shows an equal number of men and women participated, with most married individuals. The study also found that participation rates vary depending on occupation, income level, and location. It is worth noting that many respondents had yet to gain experience with snowboarding or skiing, suggesting that more information about these sports is needed in the surveyed areas.
Annual income was the most important factor for winter sports participation across all countries, followed by equipment willingness and budget. Financial challenges, like equipment and training costs, were identified as potential barriers. Addressing these challenges and raising awareness of the actual cost of participation can attract and retain more skiers and snowboarders..
This research aims to offer valuable insights to industry experts, policymakers, and those interested in encouraging skiing and snowboarding as healthy and enjoyable recreational activities. The study comprises chapters on literature review, research methodology, and results and discussion. This study aims to identify the factors that influence participation in winter sports and thereby increase participation rates while ensuring safety in these popular winter activities.
