The objective of this study was to investigate developmental assets for upper elementary children in Maioli county and the relationship between assets and behaviors. Self-report surveys were completed by a diverse sample of 510 students in 5th-6th grades. Children Developmental Assets Scale, Children Risk Behavior Scale, Children Thriving Behavior Scale and Children Life Adjustment Scale were used as the survey instrument.
The data were analyzed by T-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation. Four main findings of this study were as followed:
1. A majority of students reported experiencing enough assets. They also reported experiencing more internal assets than external assets, and different degree of eight categories of assets.
2. There were statistically significant differences on developmental assets by gender and family composition, but no differences by grade.
3. Developmental assets for upper elementary children presented negative correlation with children risk behavior, positive correlation with children thriving behavior and children life adjustment.
4. The result of the survey and the States were approximately the same.
