This thesis explores Honduras' diplomatic shift from Taiwan to China, examining how Honduras exercised its own agency despite pressures from larger powers such as the United States, Taiwan and China. Using Waltz's and Tang's theories of small state agency and Womack's concept of asymmetry in international relations, the study analyzes the economic, political, and ideological factors influencing this decision. Through qualitative interviews and historical analysis, it reveals how Honduras leveraged economic dependencies, internal political dynamics, and strategic maneuvering to assert its interests. The findings provide insights into the complex interplay of international pressures and national agency, offering lessons for other countries facing similar diplomatic challenges
