本論文從當代朝鮮族遷移的跨國過程切入，試圖描繪朝鮮族勞動者跨國場域的生活場景，並回答有跨國遷移經驗的朝鮮族人處在韓國與中國之間，如何透過劃界工作（boundary work）來形構出屬於自己的族群與國族認同。

首先，本研究與離散相關文獻對話，發現80、90年代朝鮮族的遷移現象或許能算是離散回歸，然而「離散群體」一概念無法用來理解近10年來前往韓國工作的朝鮮族的經驗。跨國主義的視角更適合解釋「當代朝鮮族遷移」，當代朝鮮族遷移並不是完全移居到韓國，他們仍持續與中國原籍家鄉保持聯絡，並持續在中、韓兩國建立他們的社會網絡。

本研究發現，「我是朝鮮族，但我是中國人」這樣的雙重身分認同隱含著兩種層面的劃界工作。朝鮮族藉由劃界工作與中國人（漢族）求異的過程，展現出對韓國的認同，與韓國人求同；同時，朝鮮族在與韓國人求異的過程中，展現出對中國的認同，與中國人（漢族）求同。在跨國場域的遷移過程中，朝鮮族反覆指認與被指認出自己與中國人、與韓國人等他者的異同，並在互動中持續協商出界線。劃界的過程展現朝鮮族作為主體的能動性，並顯示出朝鮮族在不同情境下的彈性認同形構。

Taking transnational migration approach, this study explores how Korean-Chinese (Chosŏnjok) labor migrators have traveled back and forth between China and South Korea, and how their migratory have experience shaped their national and ethnic identities. This study found that Chosŏnjok migrants in the 1980s and 1990s might been categorized as diaspora, but the concept of diaspora has not been useful to the understanding of recent Korean-Chinese migrations in the past ten years. This study argues that of transnationalism is more proper to explain contemporary Chosŏnjok migrations. Recent Chosŏnjok migrants have frequently moved between the borders and keep close contacts with communities in both China and South Korea.

This study found that while across borders between China and South Korea, Chosŏnjoks are more likely to identify themselves as Chinese nationally and Chosŏnjok ethnically. They emphasize national differences with South Koreans when they are in South Korea and stress ethnic differences from Han Chinese when they are in China. They take their experiences and ideas of South Korean modernity and Chinese dream to make associations and boundaries with the two societies in their identity works. Transnational migration processes between China and South Korea for Chosŏnjoks are also ongoing processes of identity construction.
