天文學,是一門古老的學問;視覺,則是大多數人類認識這個世界訊息的主要方式。當星體的運動軌跡以具體的圖形呈現,仔細探究圖形的結構與產生過程,可看出星體的運動軌跡其實存在著特定規律。然而一般大眾若無具備基礎數學與天文知識,常將數學視為畏途,甚而難以從中體會圖形背後的數律之美。
本研究立基於天文學的基礎,將主要影響圖形結構的因子(距離、速度)參數化後,在研究者建立的數位介面,可讓星體在有固定旋繞中心的模式下,描繪出運行過程的軌跡。研究者以太陽系八大行星及部份小行星的數據做為初步的探討資料,分別在「雙重圓周運動模式」及「星體中心模式」得到不同的圖形結構後,透過進一步地分析其圖形產生模式,以及在數律上的意義後,研究者以「星體中心模式」做為最終數位平台的開發基準,設計出易於操控、能即時得到回饋結果等特性的參數式介面平台。
由研究者自行設計、建製的數位平台,不只重現了英國學者Martineau在“A little book of coincidence”一書的研究成果,更進行一步將星體互動的過程,以動態的動畫模式呈現。冀望能讓使用者在看到星體軌跡圖形,並著手嘗試調整參數的過程之中,引發探究圖形所蘊含數律關係的意圖。
Astronomy is an ancient branch of knowledge; vision is the medium most people rely on to obtain information about the world. When the trajectory of astronomical objects present as concrete patterns, we can study the structure and becoming of those patterns closely and see that there exists certain regularity in such trajectories. However, a person without any basic mathematical or astronomical knowledge might easily be discouraged by mathematics and be refrained from being able to enjoy the beauty of a harmonic chart.
This study takes astrology as a foundation and parameterizes the pattern structure’s core factors (distance and velocity), then creates a digital interface on which trajectories can be drawn of astronomical objects with a fixed barycenter. The study examined data from Solar System’s 8 planets and other planetoids; after obtaining the pattern structures under the “binary star mode” and “planet-centric mode,” the study further analyzes its process pattern and its mathematical significance. Eventually, the study chose the “planet-centric mode” to base its digital interface on and designed a parameter interface that is user-friendly and offers instant feedback.
This digital surface, designed and established by this study, not only reconstructs British scholar John Martineau’s research results in his book, “A Little Book of Coincidence,” but also takes a further step by presenting the process of interaction between astronomical objects in a dynamic animation. The study hopes that users, after observing trajectory patterns and going through personally adjusting the parameters, can be inspired to explore the mathematical relations behind the patterns.
