酒促小姐處於傳統八大行業分類的模糊地帶,在熱炒店、燒烤店、菸酒行、酒吧、K歌場等場合推銷不同品牌的酒類,這些飲酒場所中,男性顧客往往透過言行來物化與性化酒促工作者;酒促行業與陪侍業又有工作場域的重疊,因此邊界與身份管理就成為酒促小姐的日常必要勞動。本文從新竹地區的酒促行業切入,以達兩年的參與式觀察,並深度訪談十三位酒促小姐、兩位督導、一名店家經營者及一名酒客,以「劃界」作為分析工具,探討酒促小姐在不同性化工作場所中,因權力關係、市場變遷與集體認同等影響所面臨的挑戰,進一步深描她們的勞動處境與影響因素。
研究發現,酒促勞動性質的不確定性、職業汙名和騷擾問題,使得酒促小姐需要使用邊界管理的技術去創造界線的動態,進而保護自己的自主性與能動,這些銷售者當中高比例為單身母親,酒促工作也成為了她們取得高時薪和彈性工時之掙扎場域。為補充權力結構中的不平等現象,本研究提出四個論點:一、持續建構的性別角色;二、虛假意識與自我剝削;三、性別邊界再生產;四、性別邊界下的主體與能動。本研究透過界線政治來理解酒促小姐的勞動樣貌,呈現出這一職業群體的複雜與多樣性,也望填補我們對此類高度女性化勞動的忽視。
Liquor promotion girls are situated in the ambiguous zone of the patrons at clubs and bars in Taiwan, selling different brands of alcohol in hot food stores, barbecue restaurants, tobacco stores, bars, karaoke venues, etc. In these places, male customers often objectify and sexualize the workers through their words and actions. Since there is an overlap in the workplace between the liquor promotion industry and the escort industry, boundary and identity management has become a necessary part of the daily life of the liquor promotion girls. This paper begins with a two-year participant observation of the Hsinchu liquor promotion industry and in-depth interviews with thirteen female liquor promotion girls, two supervisors, one shopkeeper, and one drinker. Using “boundary work” as an analytical tool, the study explores the challenges faced by female liquor promoters in different sexualized workplaces due to power relations, market changes, and collective identity, and further describes their labor situations and influencing factors.
The study finds that the uncertainty of the nature of liquor-promoted labor, the stigma of the profession, and the problem of harassment require the use of boundary management techniques to create boundary dynamics that protect the autonomy and agency of liquor promotion girls, a high percentage of whom are single mothers, and that liquor-promoted work becomes a site of struggle for high hourly wages and flexible working hours. To supplement the inequalities in power structures, this study puts forward four arguments: (1) continuously constructed gender roles; (2) false consciousness and self-exploitation; (3) reproduction of gender boundaries; and (4) subjectivity and agency under gender boundaries. This study uses boundary politics to understand the labor pattern of the liquor promotion girls, presenting the complexity and diversity of this occupational group, and hoping to fill in the gaps in our neglect of this highly feminized labor.
