Teacher professional competencies and self-determination motivation are the important factor for the teacher agency. The purpose of this research is to investigate the current status and interrelationship of teacher professional competencies, self-determination motivation and teacher agency. The research methods included literature analysis, questionnaire survey and interview method. The survey subtects were public national primary school teachers in Taiwan. The study issued a total of 1,008 questionnaires, with the return rate of 90.9%, among which there were 840 questionnaires valid. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, Bootstrap, structural equation modeling (SEM), and interview method to fin out what they truly thoughts.
The results show that the current status of teacher professional competencies is high perception, especially with ’professional ethical practice’ is the best. The current status of self-determination motivation is high-mediate perception, especially with’ competence’ is the best. The current status of teacher agency is high-mediate perception, especially with’teaching effectiveness’ is the best. There is a moderate positive correlation between the teacher professional competencies, self-determination motivation and teach agency. In addition, theoretical models are supported among teacher professional competencies, self-determination motivation and teach agency. Self-determination motivation has some intermediary effects.
Based on the conclusions of this study, it is suggested that teachers continue to understand new trends in education, cultivate and apply professional competencies, achieve a vision of cooperation with team teachers, make self-selection and decision-making through environmental and self-ability analysis and judgment, and stimulate self-determination motivation to actually do what they want. The educational action is to show the teacher agency, show their active behaviors in practical literacy-oriented courses, activate classroom teaching energy, and effectively improve students' learning.
