談到石化工業區與汙染問題，大部分的人會直覺聯想到高雄後勁五輕、雲林麥寮六輕，但對於位於彰化縣的彰濱工業區的建設與影響了解不多。彰濱工業區包含線西、崙尾、鹿港三大區塊，其中位於劃設範圍內的線西鄉，又因人口少、意見常不受重視。近幾個月以來，彰化縣晶鼎焚化爐的興建以及廢棄物排放的問題，重新讓此區的污染問題浮上社區檯面。因此，本文擬以彰化縣線西鄉鄉民作為案例，藉由訪談線西鄉不同世代的當地人，描繪鄉民的生活圖像，並透過田野調查，搭配歷史性的脈絡進行整理，探析線西鄉居民的環境意識及對於當地的認同與想像。綜觀整個台灣，有類似環境議題的應不只線西鄉，雖然經濟利益與汙染的衝突對立不斷上演，卻因為錯綜複雜的考量往往只能擱置。
本文希望透過線西鄉民族誌的方式，重新梳理當地人與環境的關係，並扣連筆者的核心關懷:其一，位於工業區的線西鄉與其他工業區對於環境意識的認知有何差異；其二、從鄉民話語的表述進一步分析環保行動背後的可能阻礙；其三，分析台灣社區面臨相似困境的共同特質，進而思考環保意識與行動的侷限性。

When discussing the petrochemical industrial zones and pollution issues,most people instinctively think of Kaohsiung's Houjing and Yunlin's Mailiao.However,there is less awareness about the construction and impacts of the Zhangbin Industrial Zone located in Changhua County.The Zhangbin Industrial Zone includes three main areas:Xianshi, Lunwei,and Lugang. Among them,Xianshi Township, which is within the designated area,often sees its population overlooked and opinions disregarded due to its smaller size. In recent months, problems related to the construction of the Changhua County Jinding incineration plant and waste emissions have brought the pollution issues in this area back into the community spotlight.

Therefore, this thesis aims to use the residents of Xianshi Township in Changhua County as a case study. Through interviews with local people of different generations, it seeks to portray the living conditions of the residents, and through fieldwork combined with historical context, to explore the environmental awareness of Xianshi residents as well as their identification and imagination of the locality. Overall, similar environmental issues are not limited to Xianshi Township in Taiwan. Although the conflict between economic interests and pollution continues to play out, the complexities of various considerations often lead to these issues being set aside.

This thesis hopes to revisit the relationship between local people and the environment through an ethnographic study of Xianshi Township, connecting to the author's core concerns: first, what differences exist in environmental awareness between Xianshi Township, located in the industrial zone, and other industrial areas; second, to further analyze potential obstacles behind environmental protection actions based on the discourse of the residents; and third, to examine the common characteristics faced by Taiwan's communities in similar predicaments, thus reflecting on the limitations of environmental awareness and actions.
