本研究旨在探討國民中學階段在家自行教育數學學科教學與學習情形,並以兩個在家自行教育家庭為個案,以質性研究方式,透過訪談、教學觀察及相關文件蒐集等方式蒐集資料,並進一步分析與歸納,以深入瞭解其數學教學與學習情形。
本研究之結論如下:
一、個案選擇在家自行教育的核心理念為重視家人相處時間、品格與生活教育以及傳承信仰的價值觀,這些可歸納為內在價值因素,而選擇在家自行教育的原因有不滿學校教育品質、避免同儕與社會的負面影響、相關規定制度的支持,這些原因可以歸納成外在環境因素,這兩個因素會隨時間有所轉變。
二、個案子女對在家自行教育的意見與看法為期望和家長對話、學習同儕的需要與擔心未來的銜接教育。
三、在家自行教育的教學者(即家長)對數學學科的專精程度會影響學習者的學習深度;教學計畫依家庭情況會有彈性的調整;教學多依照教科書或講義順序進行;惟教具使用不足。
四、個案學生的數學學習成效良好,學習態度積極自主;作業分為進度、章節複習、大範圍統整三種;數學評量次數不多且方式多為紙筆評量;期待教學進度盡量超前與繼續維持好的學習成績。
五、在家自行教育數學教學與學習的困難為家長的時間有限;數學學科教學知識與使用教學表徵的經驗不足;數學教學活動的豐富性不夠;學生有不同的學習困難需要教學者(即家長)深入瞭解與協助解決。
最後本研究依據研究結果提出幾點啟思,供教育主管機關、學校教育人員、現在正
進行及將來有意願選擇在家自行教育的家庭做為參考,並提出未來研究的建議。

A Study on Home Schooling in Teaching and Learning of Junior–high Mathematics
ABSTRACT
This study explores the teaching and learning of junior-high mathematics for homeschoolers in Taiwan. Two homeschooling families were invited to be the cases for this qualitative study. Interviews with the teachers(the parents) and the students(the homeschoolers), observations of mathematics teaching at home , and document analysis of teaching plans and relative materials were used to collect qualitative data which were then analyzed to find out the realities .
The results are as follows:
1. There are two value orientations for the subjects’ choice of homeschooling, however, these value orientations are subjected to change with time. Internal value orientation includes having more time with family members, being able to do character and life education, and to transmit religious faith. External value orientation includes being dissatisfied with school education, preventing negative influence of peers or society, and being supported by government’s policy for homeschooling .
2. The students express the following concerns: dialogue between parents and children still not enough; strong need for peer interaction; and concern about future transition to the public school system.
3. The home educators' expertise and academic background certainly affects the students' depth of learning. Lesson plans are flexibly adjusted according to individual home situations. The home educators teach mathematics mostly by textbooks without enough teaching aids.
4. Both of the students are learning mathematics quite well and very positive about learning. Their work include learning planned materials, reviewing and integrating main ideas in whole chapter. They are not constantly tested on their progress, and when they are, they take paper and pencil tests most often. Their goals are to be ahead of their peers in learning and to maintain satisfactory academic records.
5. The challenges of junior-high mathematics teaching and learning for homeschoolers include time constraint and short of pedagogical content knowledge on the part of parents and a need to identify and resolve individual student’s learning difficulties.
The results of this study shed light on the homeschooling experience in Taiwan. Based on the results, the researcher offers administrators, schools and parents some suggestions about how to practice homeschooling more adequately and also offers recommendations for future research on this topics.
