以加盟店的方式作商品的配銷,被認為是極具效率的,因為它以不斷複製成功模式的方式,節約了許多的固定成本和管理比較的成本,並且和連鎖店相較之下,更進一步的節省了代理成本。我們在文獻回顧中,會看到加盟體系不僅僅以一致性的規範來管理,還會看到在選擇加盟者的時候,會考慮加盟者的順從程度。
但在加盟店的迅速擴張之後,競爭的加劇也帶來了創新的議題;創新隱含的改變意義,跟原本加盟連鎖之所以具有競爭力的來源,即一致性,起了衝突。
我們可以在文獻探討中,看到一些學者探討如何以改善加盟體系成員間的互動形式,來達到加盟體系的創新。不過,根據他們的理論所得到的結果,大多是在製程上面的創新,而沒有說明是否能夠跨越消費者眼中的一致性,進行產品的創新;而我們觀察到近年來加盟連鎖體系的產品創新頻率是極高的,因此,我們使用了交易成本的分析,才能說明加盟體系中的產品創新。
