本研究旨在瞭解育有幼兒之越南裔新住民母親的教養觀、教養策略及在雙文化間對子女教養的調適。本研究採用多重個案研究法,以六位育有二至六歲幼兒的越南裔新住民母親為研究對象,收集訪談,家庭觀察及文件等資料。研究結果發現越南裔新住民母親重視之教養觀有七項,包含:建立好品格、發展學業及閱讀能力、保持身心健康、承擔家務、建立與親人的情感、學習越南語言與文化、及學習知識基金。越南裔新住民母親運用五項教養策略,分別為正向教導、增加經驗、以身作則、以家人的喜好為主、及善用資源。本研究六位母親皆屬兼採臺越文化的雙文化主義教養者,其教養傾向可細分三種類型,一是傾向傳遞子女與越南有關的教養觀、二是傾向傳遞與臺灣相符的教養觀、三是同時傳遞與越南有關及與臺灣相符的教養觀。母親在雙文化間從兩面向做教養調適,一為適應主流教養實作,分為三種方式:採用雙邊文化相似的教養實作、捨棄越南習得教養實作改採主流教養實作、改變越南習得教養實作以符應主流教養實作,二為在臺灣創造環境以繼續在越南習得之教養實作。本研究深化對越南裔新住民母親教養觀、教養策略及雙文化教養調適的瞭解,期待主流社會能用正向觀點瞭解越南裔新住民,同時亦能將母親的文化融入課程中。
This study aimed to understand Vietnamese new-immigrant mothers’ bicultural parenting concepts and strategies. Six Vietnamese new-immigrant mothers with children aged two to six years were recruited in this study. Data sources included interviews, family observation, and document collection. This study revealed that the mothers valued their children’s development of good character, improving academic and reading abilities, keeping mental health, sharing household chores, establishing close relationships with family and relatives, learning Vietnamese language and culture, and learning funds of knowledge. Mothers used five parenting strategies to educate their children. These are disciplining children with positive ways, increasing children’s opportunities to practice, leading by example, following their family’s preferences, and using resources. In addition, all mothers developed a bicultural parenting style. There were three types of parenting tendency: (a) transmitting Vietnam-related values, (b) transmitting Vietnamese values similar to Taiwanese values, and (c) transmitting both Vietnam-related values and those similar to Taiwanese. In addition, the mothers adjusted their parenting in bicultural context from two aspects. One is adapting to mainstream parenting practices, including three strategies: (a) adopting parenting practices shared by both cultures, (b) abandoning parenting practices accumulated in Vietnam and adopting mainstream parenting practices, (c) modifying parenting practices accumulated in Vietnam to adapt to mainstream parenting practices. The other is establishing environment in Taiwan to keep doing parenting practices accumulated in Vietnam. This study deepened the understanding of the parenting concepts and strategies of Vietnamese new-immigrants in bicultural context. The findings provided insight onto the understanding of Vietnamese immigrant mothers with positive attitudes and the integration of mothers’ culture into curricula.
