最近這幾年由於半導體技術的成熟,使得光子晶體的應用得以慢慢實現,導致光子晶體發展得非常快速,過去的研究重心放在光子晶體能隙的特性應用上,近五年來,許多研究單位開始將重心轉移到光子晶體傳導帶的部份,無非是希望能有效的利用光子晶體控制光的傳播,研究中意外的發現光子晶體中的負折射現象,其中J. B. Pendry提出「利用負折射可造就完美透鏡」的文章後,許多人在這上面提出不同的看法,但對於光子晶體負折射的現象是否能造就完美透鏡仍是眾說紛紜,基於此本論文針對光在光子晶體中傳播的現象做詳細的研究,我們利用Matlab作為計算光子晶體色散關係的工具,Beam Prop作為模擬電磁場傳播的工具,並認為光子晶體之負折射現象實際上為繞射的一種表象,與負折射率無關,且利用光子晶體負折射現象無法達到完美透鏡成像,此一研究勢必有助於釐清負折射與完美透鏡的關聯。實驗上,我們對樣品做了製程設計與初步試作,利用奈米製程技術製作紅外波段之全角度具負折射光子晶體,希望藉由實驗觀察發散光源聚焦的現象。
