在過去的研究中已經知道光碟機主要的噪音可分為空氣動力噪音與結構振動噪音,其中以空氣動力振動噪音為主要。因此若要改善光碟機的噪音,就需著重於觀察光碟機內部的流場,以減少引發空氣動力噪音的機制。在量測實體光碟機實際在運作時所引發的聲壓,發現結構振動噪音所佔的比例,約為整體光碟機噪音的2%,由此得知光碟機的主要噪音源確實是由空氣動力噪音所主宰。本論文也針對光碟機內部幾個較易引發空氣動力噪音的機件部份,做了幾何形狀上的改善,並觀察改善前與改善後差異,最後發現在改善光碟機托盤的部份對減噪效果最好。除了有實際改善光碟機的噪音外,本論文也設計了一塊平面托盤來做為光碟機噪音的最低底限,並與開蓋的光碟機做比較,試圖找出光碟機的噪音改善可努力的空間還有多少,經比較後平面拖盤可以比開蓋光碟機少了約7dBA的聲壓量。
而除了光碟機本身的問題之外,本論文也規劃量測具有垂直偏差1mm的翹曲片,在實際光碟機中運轉的時候,其碟片表面的振動有何特性,同時並量測此翹曲片與一般光碟片在不同狀況下所引發的噪音量各為多少,經由量測結果顯示,引發的聲壓差別並不大。
