Project is an essential element to maintain the company's competitiveness, however the project has a very high rate of failure. This study classifies project cases and explores key successful factors for different types of project. Then study analyze and explain the different key successful factors for different projects using comparison within same type and cross-type comparison.
The study collected eight interview cases and limited to five. According to the findings of the study to explain why different types have different key successful factors. Project will be classified according to the importance of the project as a core business and supportive projects. Study found that the definition of project success will affect the combination of project key successful factors. The project defines its success as “project success”, which means project pay attention to the future value of deliverables, and this kind of project’s key successful factors tend to be long-term indicators.
In addition to discover the relationship between the definition of project success and the key successful factors, key successful factors for different project type were also found. The two projects of the core business type are highly homogeneous and they both service for star-up companies. The study finds that the two core business projects have unique and common key successful factor - review the case before accept, but their review have different aspects of observation which depend on the definition of project success.
In sum, the study found that the two types of project which classify by importance of projects. Both of them have the same key successful factor which is the stakeholder management. Core business: Regular projects have a lot of accumulated historical data that develop their own key successful factors. The supportive projects have less historical data to refer. This kind of project must rely on continuously communicating to and coordinating with stakeholders to achieve the project objectives.
