近年台灣興起老屋翻修及街屋立面整治的風氣。各種老屋經過整修之後，以嶄新的面貌出現在街景。這些建築與街道的美學，無聲卻深刻地影響民眾的日常。本研究以景觀美學的論點探討麻豆地區老街、老屋的風格、式樣及起源；並整理、討論市容景觀美學相關的論述，將市容、街景與城市建築的視覺元素，視為美學研究討論的對象。本研究方法學包含（1）整理國內、外藝術史、建築史相關書籍對於街道景觀的討論，（2）實地走訪麻豆地區老街及老屋，（3）並針對研究目標進行拍攝與詳實紀錄，依照清朝、日治時期、戰後時期時間區隔，（4）分析其美學風格與式樣，（5）最後以美學的觀點進行批判，並討論建築對於民眾日常的影響。
本研究發現，日治時期麻豆老街及老屋的立面風格，並非純然巴洛克式建築，其中的本土化痕跡可以窺見殖民與在地文化的拉扯。此外，立面裝飾式樣的使用，其實更接近矯飾主義時期對於裝飾式樣的自由運用。戰後時期的建築風格式樣，除了中國古典式樣外，開始出現工業化的販厝，並隨之出現各種建築上的增建物，混亂的街道景觀背後，潛藏著階級的意識，以及民眾生活空間不足的問題。

In recent years, many historical buildings and the façades of townhouses have been renovated in Taiwan. After renovation, the historical buildings have brand new appearances. The aesthetics of these buildings and streets influence people’s everyday life silently and profoundly. This study investigates the landscape aesthetics of the styles, forms, and origins of the historical streets and buildings in Madou district. The study also lists and discusses relevant discourses on urban landscape aesthetics. The thesis takes urban landscape, streetscape, and urban architecture as the subject matter of aesthetic discussion. The research methodology of the thesis includes (1) the use of the existing literature from the disciplines of art history and architectural history, both domestic and foreign, on the landscape of the street, (2) visiting in person the historical streets and buildings, (3) taking photos of and documenting the said streets and buildings in a chronological order (the Qing Dynasty, Japanese Occupation, and Post-war), (4) analysis of styles and forms, and (5) criticism of aesthetics and of the influence these buildings have on people’s everyday life.
The study discovers that the style of the façade of the historical streets and buildings in Madou district during the Japanese Occupation are not entirely Baroque, they reveal a process of localization and struggle between the colonizer and the local culture. Furthermore, the use of decorative patterns on the façade of the said streets and buildings is more like a free, “Mannerism-like” use of decorative patterns. As for the post-war period, the styles contain not only Classical Chinese style, but also industrial styles (as embodied through commercial townhouses). These commercial townhouses usually have illegal and additional constrictions on them, causing the streetscape to appear chaotic and ugly. Such streetscape also indicates the problem of social class and the lack of living space.
