  • 摘要
    九〇年代臺灣社會的移民代辦業興盛,移民到加拿大的人數逐年增加,並在1996、1997年時達到最高峰。在多倫多北約克(North York)、萬錦(Markham)等地區出現了數個知名的「臺灣人社區」,以臺灣特色做為號召,被暱稱為「小台北」的大都會廣場也在此時期開幕。然而這些臺灣人聚集區在當代的多倫多已經越來越不可見,包含大都會廣場在內的港臺特色商場普遍出現了「泛華人化」的現象,族群空間破碎的現象與中國移民的人口快速增加、臺灣、香港移民的回流潮有關。本研究取徑臺灣移民的社會文化背景對其在多倫多的適應過程中產生的影響,將臺灣移民發生回流潮的原因分為三大類:不確定的移民動機、不穩定的社群結構、在「中國式全球化」下所出現的生存利基改變。這些原因讓臺裔移民在當地族群景觀中越顯低調,讓異鄉無法成為家鄉,移民成為階段型的任務,在多倫多住了幾十年,而根還留在臺灣。
