As urbanization progresses, modern life has led to environmental disconnection, increasing urban residents' demand for nature and concern for health and quality of life. Leisure agriculture has become a popular activity in suburban areas. However, most leisure farms in Taiwan focus on agricultural experiences, family entertainment, and rural tourism, lacking specialized health and wellness projects and evaluation indicators.
To address this gap, this study integrates the healing landscape perspective to establish a comprehensive evaluation system for health and wellness farms. The Modified Delphi Method (MDM) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) were used. Based on a literature review, preliminary indicators were assessed through a two-phase survey. The first phase used a pre-test questionnaire to select appropriate indicators, and the second phase used an expert questionnaire combined with AHP to determine their relative weights. The final system includes 26 indicators, such as health concepts, agricultural activities, natural resource introductions, plant growth observation, diversified planting, five-senses experiences, sensory stimulation promotion, spatial design, social bond promotion, various social spaces, team-building activities, performance spaces, self-challenge spaces, exploratory learning facilities, static reflection activities, healing design and facilities, physical fitness facilities, healthy eating education, green living promotion, and eco-friendly design.
Empirical application to two suburban farms revealed deficiencies in physical fitness facilities, self-challenge spaces, exploratory learning facilities, and farm exploration activities. Future health and wellness farm development should enhance these aspects to improve both physiological and psychological benefits.
