Violence continues to escalate gradually through a highly sexist and patriarchal society. One that normalizes violence against women in different forms and types. In 2021 Honduras was reported to be one of the most violent countries with a high femicide rate in the Central American region. The country has been adopting measures, although not enough. This research focuses on investigating women’s’ situation in Honduras in regards of security, attitudes and help seeking behaviors. Specifically, it studies the multicausal roots of violence against women to close the research gap and develop a social-ecological model that helps comprehend how individuals and the environment interact within a societal system. At the same time, it provides insights on governmental and non-governmental availability and accessibility of services. Online interviews were conducted with front-line responders of violence against women, using semi-structured questions, to explore the social relationships and behavior of victims through the social-ecological levels. Responses were analyzed using a Grounded Theory approach through open, axial, and selective coding. The results showed violence is deeply rooted from the system down to its society. The model portrays how the different levels overlap. Illustrating how one level impacts the next and the range of factors and dynamic interrelations among the victims’ environments. The solutions already exist, non-governmental organizations have contributed on them for the most part (project, initiatives, and law enforcement). If the work is not done by the government and continues to be led by civil society, it will not be sustainable. It needs to reinforce and create laws to protect women and finance existent local solutions. It requires constant political commitment, rigid law implementation promoting gender equality, nonstop investment in women’s organizations, and continuously addressing violence women face daily in the country by creating more interactive and dynamic sensitization methodologies.
