本碩論側重於「時間即是空間」隱喻角度觀察閩南語時間詞，希望藉由隱喻關係之探討，觀察閩南語時間詞如何運用空間來表示時間的指涉，從而了解其認知上所反映的時間隱喻運用。本文所討論的語料主要來自各類字典、語料庫以及筆者實際使用的閩南語時間詞，研究方式則是透過跨語言對比，以認知語言學的概念性隱喻理論、語意演變、語法化、象似性等概念為基礎觀察閩南語表空間關係的「前」、「後」、「頂」、「下」、「頭」和「尾」如何透過隱喻表達時間概念，同時也針對「前」、「後」、「頂」、「下」、「頭」和「尾」與不同時間單位詞搭配以及詞序不同所產生的語意差異。本文透過人類認知角度所反映的隱喻關係來觀察閩南語時間詞，其研究結果獲致如下：閩南語除了「前」、「後」和「頂」、「下」各自用水平和垂直空間表示時間之外，「頭」、與「尾」亦運用相同的空間概念表示。其次，閩南語時間詞「前」、「後」、「頂」、「下」、「頭」與「尾」因為順序關係以及時間單位詞搭配不同，導致其所形成時間關係而有異，歸納其不對稱之現象肇因於人類認知上角度對空間感受不同，導致說話者表示不同的時間關係。

This thesis investigates temporal expressions in Taiwanese Southern Min based on the perspective of spatial metaphor. The purpose is to explore the conceptualization of sptial metaphor in Taiwanese Sothern Min. On the basis of Conceptual Metaphor Theory proposed by Lakoff & Johnson (1980), the process of grammaticalization (Heine et al.1991a, b), word order and the conceptualization of whole and part (Tai 1989), we conduct a cross-language comparison of temporal expressions. The purpose is two folded. One is to figure out the conceptualization of the metaphorical expressions containing the spatial lexemes tsîng ‘front’, āu ‘back’, ting ‘top’, ē ‘down’, thâu ‘head’ and bué ‘tail’. The other is to explain the semantic differences resulting from collocation of these lexemes with different temporal expressions and word order change. The conclusions of this research are presented from cognitive viewpoint. On the one hand, the use of temporal expressions of tsîng ‘front’, āu ‘back’ and ting ‘top’, ē ‘down’ to refer to earlier and later time reflects a horizontal and vertical space respectively, but for thâu ‘head’ and bué ‘tail’, the spatial base seems to be both vertical and horizontal. On the other hand, the asymmetry emerges from collocation and word order discussed above can be attributed to the distance and salience in space that human beings perceive.
