本研究以十九世紀英國拉斐爾前派(The Pre-Raphaelite)藝術家威廉．霍曼．亨特（William Holman Hunt,1827-1910）的繪畫為研究主題。亨特的繪畫風格以細緻描繪、飽滿色澤以及具豐富象徵意義的圖像聞名。
拉斐爾前派由亨特、約翰．艾佛雷特．米雷(John Everett Millais,1829- 1896)及但丁．加百利．羅塞蒂（Dante Gabriel Rossetti,1828-1882）等藝術家們所組織而成，對當時的英國藝壇有著革命性的影響，其中亨特作品多以勸人為善的道德意涵、宗教主題和中古世紀的浪漫故事感動人心。觀看亨特的宗教題材繪畫時，總是可以被他畫面裡的許多細節所吸引，時常仔細檢閱其畫面中豐富的象徵圖像。是怎樣的創作模式，讓亨特的宗教題材作品可以兼具真實性的描繪，以及同時保有豐富的寓意性及獨創性的觀點。這將是本論文所要探討分析的重點。
本篇論文將以拉斐爾前派藝術、亨特的藝術理念與其繪畫作品等三個面向來作探討。首先從時代與歷史脈絡著手，還原亨特的藝術觀，綜觀當時的藝壇與藝術家的生平，以助於後續探討其宗教題材繪畫的作品。其中，對於亨特投以畫面中強烈的自我意識，做出進一步的闡述。爾後，以亨特不同時期的繪畫作品，探討亨特如何把真實性與不可見信仰間的拉鋸呈現於畫面之中。
亨特在其創作歷程中，替英國藝術開創出了創新的藝術觀點，以及繪畫風格，不斷以新穎、不同以往的宗教題材畫面，衝撞當時的藝壇體制。希望藉由上述的研究安排，能將亨特宗教題材的繪畫作品做較完整的呈現。

The article aims to the Pre-Raphaelite paintings by William Holman Hunt (1827~1910). His paintings were known for their great attention to detail, vivid color and elaborate symbolism.
The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was a group of English artists founded by William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. It had a significant impact on British art. For instance, Hunt’s works focus on morality, religious stories and medieval romantics. His religious paintings are so attractive due to its various symbolic accessories and overflowing symbolic realism. This is the main topic that will be conferred and analyzed in this article.
This article aims to explore the art of the Pre-Raphaelite, William Holman Hunt’s attitude towards art and artistic style as the three main points. In the beginning, it is about the times and history to analyze Hunt’s point of view towards arts. Besides, making a comprehensive survey of other artist at that times is also helps to the discussion of his religious painting works.
William Holman Hunt found an innovative viewpoint towards art which deeply influenced British art; such as he opposed to the academic style of art required by the oppressive Royal Art Academy of England. Through this article, it can deeply demonstrate and analyze his religious painting works clearly.
