城市在某種意義上可說是人類用文化搭建，供人們活動（演出）的人工舞台。一個城市現時的姿態，或許可以說就是當地文明演化進展的最直接證據了。普遍又平凡無奇的城市街景，只要用心去看，就會發現處處訴說著城市的發展脈絡和居住其中的人們生活的樣貌。
臺灣的幾個主要城市，在政治上經歷了清領、日據殖民和國民政府等不同階段的統治和治理；在文化上歷經傳統、殖民、現代和後現代等外來文化的洗禮；再加上長久以來缺乏宏觀的設計規劃和居民普遍的自主意識的營造，因而形成新舊交融、多元衝激、矛盾又複雜的文化型態，曖昧或直接的顯現於城市的街廓和各式建築之中，構築出極為獨特的臺灣城市的相貌。
任何一個藝術創作者都有自己獨有的、特殊的表現主題，並且為他們自己的主題所迷戀。研究者自1997年開始，以攝影為媒介，用接近紀實的手法，將城市景觀視為一種“日常生活的風景”，拍攝臺灣城市中普遍存在的各式建築與平凡的大街小巷，紀錄顯現於街道各角落中的歷史軌跡與當地居民活動的記憶，企圖呈現當下台灣城市的文明的面貌，並嘗試透過系列組照的集成，凝聚出城市居民集體文化意識的浮現。
希望可以藉由“城市風景”攝影創作影像的呈現，開啟人們觀看自身城市文明的另一扇窗。

“City” in a certain way can be literally described as a culture that is established by human beings to provide themselves a platform for various activities. The current gesture of a “city” could be the most direct testimony of an evolution to the local civilization. By observing with all your heart, you might realize that a normal and featureless city street view in the meanwhile presents a complexion of a city’s development networks and the actual life of local residents.
Some of the main cities here in Taiwan have politically gone through several different phases of dominance and governance such as being led by the Ching Dynasty, colonized by Japanese and managed by the KMT administration, and culturally they have been through shocks from exotic cultures from it’s original tradition to colonization, modernization and post-modernization. Besides of above mentioned, the unique faces of Taiwan cities are also resulted from the lack of macroscopic integration all these years and the deep-rooted self conscious of local people and thus bring its life patterns with a mixture of new and old culture, a combination of multiple-impacts and some sort of contradiction and complication.
Every artist has his/her particular and special ways to present his/her own ideas to certain themes and get fascinated with them. In a realistic manner, the pursuer has been using photography as a media to display the city views as “everyday-life views” ever since 1997. By shooting the existing diversified architectures and quotidian streets and alleys to take down the historical marks left in every corner and to memorize the present-day residential activities and thus to show people a civilized appearance of Taiwan cities and to condense the emersion of collective conscious among city people.
We are holding our hope that this photographic series of “Urban Landscape” might be another window for people to see through themselves and get the pictures of what city civilization they are existed on.
