市面上現有的數位微鏡元件(DMD)控制器雖然能夠即時更新影像資料,但是成本過高,因此本研究為開發一低成本且能高速傳輸資料的DMD控制器,使得體積3D顯示的應用上能夠達到高畫面更新率。而DMD控制器主要分為電子介面與時序控制,電子介面選用EZ-USB FX3™ 的USB 3.0開發套件,搭配設計的高速中介板,產生DLP3000晶片所需的2個68 MHz時脈。時序控制則是透過FX3編程狀態機,產生控制訊號與資料訊號後再送至高速中介板上的DLP3000晶片。以DLP3000晶片的datasheet與相關文件中有限的資訊為基礎,設計不同的控制訊號與資料訊號並系統化測試,再根據測試的結果調整控制時序。本研究找出DLP晶片中關鍵控制訊號的組合,並可調控輸入的資料訊號,在DLP晶片上顯示設計的影像資料。

Currently available commercial Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) controller electronics cannot satisfy the demands of real-time image data update cost-effectively. This research was conducted to develop an electronic interface and especially its control schemes to the DMD, for applications in volumetric 3D displays as a high frame rate image source. The electronic interface included a EZ-USB FX3™ USB 3.0 development kit with a new high speed interface board with two 68 MHz clock signals to connect to a DLP3000 chip. Method of programming the state machine of the FX3 system was developed to provide control signals and data inputs to the high speed interface board. Different control signal configurations and input data were designed, based on limited information from the DLP3000 datasheet and some related documents, and tested in systematic steps and the process was repeated and adjusted based on test results many times. Key combinations of signals and data capable of writing data into the DLP chip were determined. Displaying intended image contents in the chip was demonstrated.
