近來日本社會面對全球金融市場的波動與衝擊，經濟的崩解連帶鬆動了社會體制，使得愈來愈多人被強迫脫落於戰後以來所打造出的社會秩序與連結之外，進而掀起了一波「無緣社會」的討論。尤其日本底層社會中，孤獨死事件頻繁發生，更加深了底層社會缺乏社會連結的刻板印象，促使地方團體與行政部門都投入在建立社會連結的行動中。本研究從該現象切入，透過民族誌的方式，以大阪底層社會作為田野地，首先，我發現在底層社會裡，有別於過往研究所指出的逃避進入體制之中，許多人反而是嘗試融入主流社會。然而，受到制度彈性化的影響，個人表面上可以掌握更多的自由，實踐更多元的社會關係，實際上卻被更細膩的體制給排除或分割，以致晚年必須倚賴社會福利維生，領取生活保護過著自立生活，並且很難發展出穩固的認同。接著，地方團體與行政部門對於社會連結的想像，背後多帶有社會秩序與社會凝聚的觀點，以致於在連結的實作過程裡，不但難以達成目標，反而又強化了缺乏社會連結的印象。最後，若能換個角度看待連結，我發現底層社會發展出有別於主流社會獨特的社會關係與日常生活，以另類的方式鑲嵌入更廣闊的社會，並成為銜接既有體制或結構之間的橋樑。

In recent years, faced with the fluctuations and shocks of the global financial markets, more and more members of Japanese society have fallen through the net of social order and social connections that had been established in post-war Japan. This crisis set off a wave of discussions about Muen Sakai, or “disconnected society.” The frequent occurrence of “lonely deaths” has further deepened the stereotype that members of Japan’s underclass lack social connections. To solve this pressing social issue, Japanese authorities and NPOs launched initiatives to assist people in making social connections. Setting out from this phenomenon, this study uses ethnographic methods to examine how government authorities and NPOs built connections between urban minorities in Osaka, Japan. Unlike previous studies, this research shows that while many people try to integrate into society, they are affected by the flexibilization of institutions that, in fact, lead to further exclusion. When they grow old, they rely on the social welfare system for subsidies to maintain their independent way of life, making it more difficult for them to develop a firm identity. Although the government and NPOs have tried to solve this issue by assisting urban minorities to connect, they also strengthen the stereotype of a lack of social connections. This study also explains how members of Japan’s underclass have developed unique social relationships and a daily life which are different from the mainstream society.
