本研究以實驗研究評估藝術欣賞對改善個人焦慮情緒的效果,期望探索藝術作為療癒手段的更多可能性,為未來的學術研究提供參考,使藝術治療能夠更廣泛地被應用於實務工作之中。本研究採 3 x 3 混合因子設計,共招募 90 名受試者(男 34 名、女 56 名),年齡介於 19-70 歲。受試者被隨機分配至想像組、欣賞組或控制組。實驗包含五個階段, 受試者共需觀看兩部影片和填寫三份情緒自評量表,並在整個實驗過程中配戴生理回饋儀,記錄其生理變化(包含 GSR、BVP 和 HR)。在欣賞創作影片時,想像組被要求在觀看時必須想像是自己正在從事創作;欣賞組僅被告知接下來需觀看一段影片;控制組的螢幕沒有畫面,僅保留背景音樂。實驗結果發現:(一)在反應性資料方面,三組受試者皆能透過觀看一段負向影片而顯著增加情境焦慮度,降低情緒價性與提高情緒喚起;但也能再透過一段藝術影片的自我創作想像、單純欣賞或僅聆聽背景音樂而顯著降低情境焦慮度,提升情緒價性與降低情緒喚起。(二)在生理回饋資料方面,三組受試者觀看負向影片時,GSR 變化不大,但 BVP 與 HR 會顯著增高;但觀看創作影片後, 會使 GSR 顯著降低,BVP 更顯著增高,HR 繼續維持。(三)在想像藝術創作或僅聆聽放鬆舒緩的背景音樂時比純欣賞藝術創作時對提升情緒價性效果更明顯些。(四)不管想像藝術創作、純欣賞藝術創作或僅聆聽音樂,女受試者在情緒喚起、GSR 與 HR 降低效果,以及在 BVP 提升效果皆比男受試者更明顯些。綜合來說,本研究結果顯示藝術欣賞在調節個人焦慮情緒上具有顯著效果,這表示未來值得進一步推廣多樣化藝術療癒方式,有效即時減低一般人因暫時情境或因素而引發的焦慮感或強烈的負向情緒。(註: GSR 為膚電阻;BVP 為血流脈衝;HR 為心跳率)
Although art-making has been shown to be effective in reducing anxiety, little empirical evidence exists on emotion regulation in the context of viewing art. In this 3×3 mixed factorial design, the potential for art viewing to reduce anxiety was examined in a sample of 90 adults (34 men and 56 women; ages 19-70 years) randomly assigned to one of the three conditions generated: Imagination group, appreciation group, or control group. The experiment consists of five stages. Participants were asked to watch two videos and complete three emotional self-assessment scales. Throughout the experiment, a physiological feedback device was equipped to record the participants’ physiological characteristics, including the galvanic skin resistance (GSR), blood volume pulse (BVP), and heart rate (HR). In the stage of watching the art creation video, the imagination group was asked to imagine themselves as creators, while the appreciation group was only told to watch the video. As for the control group, there were no images on the screen and only background music. The experimental results showed: (1) According to the response data, the three groups of participants experienced a significant increase in situational anxiety, a significant decrease in emotional valence, and a significant increase in emotional arousal by watching the negative
emotion-inducing video; while through self-created imagination, pure appreciation of the art creation video, or simply listening to background music can significantly reduce situational anxiety, increase emotional valence, and reduce emotional arousal. (2) In terms of the physiological feedback data, when the three groups of participants watched the negative emotion-inducing video, GSR did not change much, but BVP and HR increased significantly. However, after watching the art creation video, participants experienced a significant decrease in GSR and a significant increase in BVP, while HR remained unchanged. (3) When imagining oneself as the creator or listening to background music, the effect of increasing emotional valence was greater than when simply watching the art creation video. (4) Whether imagining themselves as creators, simply enjoying art creation videos, or listening to relaxing music, female participants have more obvious effects on reducing emotional arousal, GSR and HR, and increasing BVP than males. Results indicated a significant effect in reducing anxiety in the context of viewing art. It suggested the value of promoting a variety of artistic strategies in therapeutic setting to help people repair negative emotions arising from situational stress.
