Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the college students’attitude toward fidelity in love relationship. The instrument adopted in this study is “The Attitude toward Fidelity in Love Relationship” Scale. A toal of 710 valid participants was sampled from 12 colleges in the north of Hsinchu. The data were analyzed by using One-Way ANOVA, Two-Way ANOVA, and Multi-Stepwise Regerssion Analysis. The significant findings are as follows:
1.The behavior which college students can’t accept their partners or themselves do with opposite-sex friends most is “having sexual contact and falling in love”, the behavior they can accept most is “concern or support”, the acceptance of “dating” is in the middle.
2.“Male” can accept his partner dating, having sexual contact or falling in love with, and concern about or support opposite-sex friends more then “female” does. “Male” can accept himself dating, having sexual contact or falling in love with others more then “female” does. Therefore, female is stricter than male in love fidelity.
3.College students can accept “themselves” dating, having sexual contact or falling in love with, and concern about or support opposite-sex friends more then “partners” do. Accordingly, they are stricter with their partners than with themselves in love fidelity.
4.College students who are “not in love relationships” can accept their partners or themselves dating, having sexual contact or falling in love with, and concern about or support opposite-sex friends more then those who are “in love relationships”. Thus, those are in love relationships are stricter than those are not in love relationships in love fidelity.
5.College students who “have no dating experience” can aceept their partners dating, having sexual contact or falling in love with, and concern about or support opposite-sex friends more then those who “have dating experience”. They also can accept themselves having sexual contact or falling in love with others. Thus, those who have dating experience are stricter than those have no dating experience in love fidelity.
6.The more the college students “love their partners”, the more they can not accept their partners or themselves dating, having sexual contact or falling in love with, and concern about or support opposite-sex friends. In other words, the more they love their partners, the stricter they are in love fidelity.
7.The more “dating experiences” the college students have, the more they can accept themselves or their partners having sexual contact or falling in love with others. Consequently, the less dating experiences they have, the stricter they are in love fidelity.
Key Words : College students, love relationship, Attitude toward fidelity
