奧地利畫家古斯塔夫•克林姆（Gustav Klimt, 1862-1918）活躍於十九世紀末、二十世紀初的維也納，那時藝文、科學、政治與社會建設等各領域皆蓬勃發展。目前學界對他的研究，少有關注於其風景畫與懷孕女性圖像，因此，本文以克林姆的阿特湖作品（1900, 1901-2）和《希望》（1903, 1907-8）為研究對象。分析工具則是同時代、同屬維也納文化圈的藝術史學者阿洛伊斯•李格爾（Alois Riegl, 1858-1905）對現代藝術的觀察──「心境」（Stimmung）與「藝術意志」（Kunstwollen）觀點，來論述克林姆對阿特湖湖景與孕體生命之間的多重思考與可能心境，並試圖發現這兩類看似迥異的作品，仍有其內在的關聯性。

Around 1900, Vienna was booming in art, culture, science, politics and social constructions; Austrian artist Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was active in such a modernizing environment. Art-historical scholarship so far barely focuses on his paintings of landscape and pregnant women. Therefore, this study hopes to explore more about Gustav Klimt’s paintings of Lake Atter (1900, 1901-2) and Hope (1903, 1907-8). The analytic theory for this study is "Stimmung" (mood) and "Kunswollen” (will to form) as proposed by Austrian art historian Alois Riegl (1858-1905), who was in the same cultural circle of Vienna as Klimt. By discussing the two ideas Riegl formulated for the modern art of his time, this study illustrates the multiple thinking behind and the possible mood of the two series of artworks: paintings of Lake Atter and Hope. This study also argues that the two series, though appearing totally different in forms, may have internal link to each other.
