The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different cycling seat height through electromyography (EMG) and fatigue of lower extremity during cycling. In this study, we recruited eight healthy males who had no regular riding to the bicycle (age between 18-25 years old). We tested in three different cycling seat height (90%, 95%, 100% of leg length) of bicycle riding (80 RPM, 200W) for 3 minutes. The results were as follows: 1. Regardless of any Seat height, there has no significant difference on the four muscles in the first period (0-60 sec) and second period (61-120 sec). During the third period (121-180 sec), 100% of seat height was higher than the other two of gastrocnemius. The 95% of seat height was higher than the other two seat of vastus lateralis. 2. In fatigue situation, 100% of seat height was higher than the other two of gastrocnemius. The proportion of the fatigue generated from high to low were 100%, 95%, and 90% of the seat cushion height. As the seat cushion height reduction, muscle fatigue is also reduced. As for the vastus lateralis muscle, 95% of seat height will be more activity, and less fatigue. In self-comfort checklist, the gastrocnemius of 100% of seat height can be detected in muscle soreness fatigue, but that of 90% and 95% in muscle fatigue were not easy to self-aware. The results of this study showed that 95% of seat height had better muscle efficiency, and less fatigue than that of 90% and 100% of seat height. Therefore, we will suggest that bicycle enthusiasts can choose 95% of seat height in cycling.
