The purpose of this study was to design a group counseling program for bulliers and explore the process of bulliers’ change in group counseling. This study used quasi-experimental design, invited 6 bulliers to participate 16 group counseling sessions which 2 times a week, 50 minutes each. "Self-awareness " and "self-acceptance" were the core rationale for this group counseling program. In this study, mainly the interviews with 2 members, and 16 observation records of group sessions , auxiliarly with interviews of bulliers’ teacher, leadering records of each group sessions, were analyzed in order to understand the process of bulliers’ change via participating the group counseling and the therapeutic factors.
The findings of this study were:
1.The group counseling program based on "The Knight in rusty armor" story made members to explore and understand themselves and learn to self-acceptance by multiple materials . The group counseling program is workable for the bulliers’ guidance program.
2. Bulliers who participated the group counseling have experienced different changing process. The process of bullier A’s change consisted of "observe and protect", "being active and disclosive", "being trust and empathy " stages. The bullier A’s changing behavior was: (1) From the "depend on others" to "take self-responsibility". (2) From the "actively competing" to "willing to wait". (3) more self-control and emotional management. (4) less relational bullying. The process of bullier E’s change consisted of "observe and attempt ", "active and being closer ", "more open and accept" stages. The bullier A’s changing behavior was: (1) more initiative in relations. (2) From "defensive" to "more friendly". (3) less physical bullying.
3.This group counseling program facilitated members’ " perspective-taking " capabilities and enhanced their empathy. While discussing or sharing "personal drama" , members found "experience gaps" via sharing their experiences and had the opportunity to get " emotional catharsis " and put their fears down, thus facilitated change.
Finally, based on the findings of the research, some suggestions were proposed for counseling practice and future research.
