臺灣閩南語中的“敢”字是一個具有多義性的情態詞，它在單用時詮釋未決，其語義句法的特徵主要靠句法位置而定，也因此“敢”和其他功能範疇可能形成不同的階層關係，並和語氣產生密切的關係。本文一方面從現代閩南語資料庫中分析“敢”的詞彙分類、語意內涵、語法特點和搭配關係，歸納出“敢”的不同用法；一方面也從實際的田野調查中來驗證“敢”的情態動詞及語氣副詞用法。接著在從上古、中古及近代文獻資料中探討“敢”的詞彙分類與語意內涵，藉此整理出“敢”的語法化演變途徑與歷程，並進一步探討觸發“敢”語法化可能的原因。最後，整理出臺灣閩南語中動詞位置前的功能範疇類別及其在句中排列的位階結構，再由語料庫文獻及田調結果來探究以“敢”中心的功能範疇階層結構，以及形成此階層結構可能的原因及限制，以期對“敢”的多義性及其階層結構有更全面及深入的瞭解。

This paper mainly explores the word “敢” in Taiwanese Southern Min. “敢” is a modal word with polysemy, and it can take on rhetorical function which is context-dependent and induced by pragmatic inference. This interesting phenomenon triggers us off analyzing the parts of speech, the semantic differences, and the grammatical characters of “敢” through Southern Min corpus, and also verify its real usages by means of carrying out field investigations on the other hand. Besides, in order to realize the grammaticalization of “敢”, this paper also aims at uncovering the historical semantic change of “敢” by looking into plenty ancient documents, managing to find out possible motivations which lead to its grammaticalized progress. More importantly, “敢”alone is underspecified in meaning and its interpretation hinges on the syntactic position it occupies. Hence there is a hierarchical relation between “敢”and other functional categories in conjunction with mood. We also make a study of the categories and the hierarchy of the functional words which appear in front of a verb in Southern Min. In the meanwhile, to comprehend the hierarchy of functional words more thoroughly, the formation processes and possible limitations of this hierarchical structure are discussed in the thesis as well.
