1842年上海開埠通商後，里弄（lilong）成為上海與附近地區居民的避難之地且遍布上海。中國戶口制度於1958年確立並區分了城市戶口與農村戶口後，除了被綁於農村的農村戶口難以自由遷徙與流動外，無法享有與城市戶口等同的權利，形成了「差別化公民身分」（differentiated citizenship）；直到1978年改革開放後，農村集體組織逐漸瓦解而促使大量勞動力從農村往城市移動，卻依舊無法享有與城市戶口等同的權利，另一方面，里弄逐漸被商品房取代或受到拆遷，使得住在里弄的一部分上海人搬離里弄。因此，擁有上海戶口的上海人與非上海戶口的外地人共居於里弄。
　　在上述背景之下，本研究以中國上海黃浦區廈門路的「劉家里」里弄為田野，呈現擁有上海戶口的上海人與非上海戶口的外地人於「總弄與支弄」，「房間、過道與廚房」，「承租與改建」以及「七十四號居委會」等日常生活（everyday life）的實踐，來爬梳出上海人與外地人所形成的空間邊界（spatial boundaries）與差別化公民身分、日常生活習慣之間的關係，以及日常生活的實踐挑戰差別化公民身分的可能；此外，從日常生活中所帶出的生命經歷梳理「差別化公民身分」影響著上海人與外地人的住房、工作、子女教育以及社會保險等權利與每個決定，也才理解到──作為里弄的「劉家里」對於上海人來說，因著下一代的未來成了「不想走／走不了」的地方，對於外地人來說，也因著下一代的未來、暫時與限制權利共處而成了「不得不走」的地方。

The everyday life in “Liu Lilong” reveals the context in Shanghai from the treaty port to the current appearance. Shanghai lilong houses as refuges had been everywhere since the treaty port (1842-1943). However, since 1980s, lilong houses have been bulldozed or been displaced by real estate markets, it led to a part of Shanghainese’ s leave. The market reform and the collapse of rural’s collective organizations also led to the labor force movement which was from rural areas to urban ones, especially to Shanghai. Even so, because of the household registration system ( hukou system ), those rural workers moving to Shanghai are still deprived of their many rights that urban workers have owned.
For these reasons, this thesis will mainly focus on the everyday life make the spatial boundaries that Shanghainese and non-Shanghainese comply with the distinction of “differentiated citizenship” of rural-urban hukou system or their practice, such as chats or works between the main-long and branch-longs, cooking in the share and mutual kitchen, the landlord-tenant relationship, as well as affairs that the neighborhood committee holds in “Liu Lilong” where nearby Xiamen Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. Furthermore, the thesis will explore how non-Shanghainese face difficulties without full citizenship and why Shanghainese and non-Shanghainese still live in “Liu Lilong” until now.
