Pursuing career challenge is not only a key element for individuals to start a positive development cycle of their careers, but also the tendency that domestic youths generally lack of. To understand this tendency and making suggestions to effectively improve career difficulties of youths that afraid of crossing the comfort zone, this study aims to explore the effect and underlying mechanism of career decision-making self-efficacy(CDMSE) on career challenge-seeking tendency. For example, whether it works through career decision ambiguity tolerance (CDAT) and will it be moderated by money contingent self-worth (money CSW). Survey results of 410 college students show:
(1)CDMSE has a positive effect on career challenge-seeking tendency.
(2)Ambiguity preference mediates the relationship between CDMSE and pursuit of inner challenge. While Ambiguity aversion mediates the relationship between CDMSE and pursuit of security and stability.
(3)Money CSW moderates the relation between CDMSE and pursuit of inner challenge. The positive effect of CDMSE on pursuit of inner challenge is weaken as the level of money CSW increased. On the other hand, money CSW would also weaken the negative relationship between CDMSE and pursuit of security and stability. For individuals with high money CSW, the effect of money CSW would even change the relation from a negative to a positive relationship, finally increased individual's pursuit of security and stability.
(4)Money CSW moderates the positive indirect effect of CDMSE on pursuit of inner challenge through ambiguity preference. The indirect effect of CDMSE on pursuit of security and stability is also moderated by money CSW.
