本論文以三位果敢女性的生命史敘事,討論她們分別在緬甸、泰國的遷移軌跡、跨國到台灣的婚姻生活,以及她們如何透過經營生意,找到女性在夫家自處的主動性。同時,三位女性也透過食物的記憶連結著自身與果敢的身分認同。
果敢人的遷移可以追溯到明朝末期,在緬甸果敢地區定居已有數百年。國共內戰後潛逃到緬甸的國民黨軍隊,集結緬甸當地的果敢人及雲南人,組成反共武裝。因為緬甸當局的排斥與聯合國的施壓,開始了遷移到泰國的路程。這趟路程,讓許多果敢人在泰北定居,取得身分證,同時也發生了身分認同上的轉換。 80年代末,台灣與泰國的跨國婚姻逐漸興起,從退役軍人到鄉村的男性,都加入了跨國婚姻的行列,果敢女性也因此有了來到台灣的機會。
本論文探討的三位果敢女性,現居地分別在彰化與新竹。彰化的兩位女性接管夫家的事業,分別為豬肉攤與早餐店;而新竹的女性則是自己開了一間小餐廳。她們何以維持婚姻生活、與夫家的關係,以及「事業」與「家業」的衝突。同時,她們所賣的食物與她們所吃的食物,如何連結果敢的身分認同,是本文想要探討的。透過此論文,討論何謂「果敢性」,並窺探果敢女性在台灣的婚姻生活,以及她們如何透過「做生意」找到生命的意義,以及主動性。
Documenting the life stories of three Kokang women in Taiwan, this thesis discusses their migration experiences from Myanmar and Thailand and their family life in Taiwan. It also examines their role of business women and how they gain their agency through running business. The thesis explores how the women connect their ethnic belonging to Kokang through the memories of food.
Kokang people had a long history of migration, which could be traced back to the end of Ming dynasty. After the Chinese Civil War, the KMT troops absconded to the North Myanmar. The troops allied with the local Yunan people and Kokang people to form an anti-communism armed force. However, the armed force was not welcomed by the Myanmar government and the United Nations, and they started to migrate to Thailand. This migration journey allowed many Kokang people to settle down in North Thailand and obtain legal identity. Their residence in Thailand gradually changed their ethnic identification. Since the late 80s, there was a rising trend of transnational marriage between Thailand and Taiwan. Male veterans and village men in rural Taiwan were the majority in this wave of transnational marriage. Kokang women in Thailand also gained the chance to come to Taiwan through marriage migration.
The three Kokang women in this study lived in Changhua and Hsinchu respectively. Two Kokang women ran the family business with their husbands in Changhua. One of the business is a pork stand in a wet market, and another is a breakfast shop. The last woman operated her own little eatery in Hsinchu. Through examining the life stories of these three women, the thesis explores how they balance their family life in Taiwan while maintaining ties with their native family, how they manage the conflicts between family and business, and the relationship between the food they sell and eat and their Kokang ethnic identification. Lastly, this thesis addresses how these business women obtain their agency and through running business.
