Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between theory of mind and sociometric status in young children. Ninety-three children from age four to six have been administered a series of theory of mind tasks including false belief task, emotion understanding task, and deception task and one picture-board sociometric interview. Results show a significant age effect on theory of mind and no sex effect is found. Young children’s performance on theory of mind is unable to make good sociometric status differentiation among them. The finding that shows inconsistency with previous studies done in the west is mainly due to insufficient subjects in the present study but sociometric uniqueness.
