  • 就目前以及可預見的未來來看,沒有單一個類型的無線通訊網路可以滿足所有目前以及接下來即將出現的各種無線網路服務的需求。因此在次世代無線網路的發展過程中,不同類型的無線網路同時存在,用以滿足不同服務的需求將是必然的趨勢。由於這些無線網路的涵蓋範圍是重疊的,擁有多重無線網路介面的移動式終端機(Mobile Terminal)可能會隨著不同的服務切換到不同的無線網路,這樣的切換動作稱之為垂直式交替(Vertical Handoff)。如何以及何時執行垂直式交替將會直接影響到網路服務的品質與效能。
    在本篇論文中,不同於以往的被動式方法,我們提出了一個主動式並且以應用程式為導向的方法,用以幫助移動式終端機做出有效與精準的垂直式切換。這個方法可以有效的管理移動式終端機的多重介面,避免因為啟動不必要的介面而產生的電量損耗,進一步達到節省能源的效果。另外由於我們提出的垂直式交替的決策方法是以在移動式終端機上執行的應用程式為主要考量因素,因此可以精準的找出最適合執行垂直式交替的時機以及最適合的目標網路,避免在不適當或是不需要的時候做出不需要的垂直式交替或是切換到一個不適合的無線網路。
    透過模擬的結果,我們比較了我們提出的方法與以往被動式方法的效能。我們的方法確實提供了某種程度的上的效能提升,包括更準確的垂直式交替執行時間,找出最適合的目標網路以及有效的節約移動式終端機的電量。
