本論文以臺北市士林區文林路「挽面街」的挽面攤販們為主要研究對象，透過非正式經濟、攤販研究、技藝與都市空間等面向的討論，來回應「在國家與地方政府的攤販管理政策與實踐下，以「傳統技藝」為號召的挽面攤販，運用了哪些策略來傳達其敘事方式與價值觀，合理化設攤行為，並且與政治、經濟、觀光等的結構力量互動，以成就其營生空間」的提問。筆者從文獻資料蒐集、參與觀察與半結構式的訪談資料，描繪出「挽面街」的形成與運作，以及挽面攤販的社會關係與日常生活實踐，並以此解釋挽面攤販如何建立與謀求其營生空間。同時，筆者以挽面攤販發動「就地合法請願」事件，探究攤販如何與公權力協商，以及政治角力的結果，並以此作為臺灣攤販研究的縮影，點出目前臺灣在攤販政策實踐的癥結所在。
